So you want to buy a CAR!!  How exciting!  Have I got your attention?  Cars are expensive. Different models have different features. As you drive around, your car will tell others something about you. Now, to secure that car you’ll need money. Maybe you’ll borrow from a bank or receive money from your parents, or maybe you will get a job and pay for all or part of the car yourself. How about those features?  There are things you would really like to have such as a special CD player, power seats, or power windows. Some features are a necessity like air conditioning if you live in the South, others are not so important.

You’ll learn what’s out there. As you read about models and start visiting car dealers and pricing cars, you’ll have a better idea of what will meet your need and fit your personality. Maybe you know from the get-go what it is you want and how to afford it. If so, congratulations!  But, it never hurts to check out other possibilities. You may find a pleasant surprise. What if the model you choose does not have all the features you thought you wanted but has others you never even considered?  But, hey, that’s O.K. because the one you decide on will be a good choice for you. After all, you will have done your reading, visited dealers, talked with friends, and now you know just what you need to have to take you where you want to go.

For your car that will cost you several thousand dollars you will do a lot of research. And you will be confident in your eventual purchase. What you face here and now (maybe you went back and checked the title of this book when you started reading this page) is choosing a college or university.

The financial investment will be large, many times what you would pay for your car. Your time investment is also large. But you will keep this investment, and it will perform for you for a lifetime. Don’t you think that choosing a college or university is worth at least as much of your time and effort as choosing a car?  Because this choice is one that also will provide you with what you need to have to take you where you want to go.
